Wondering minds want to know, "How come we choose two people to run for President and 50 for Miss America?"       Thoughts such as these occupy my mind.  I daydream a lot too. I remember drifting in thought one day and I awoke with my co-worker shaking my shoulders and calling my name.  "What we're you thinking about?" She asked.  I must have looked like some zombie with my eyes wide open, starring into nothing.       Actually, I was thinking about Heaven and the great buffet. Boy it sure would be awesome to eat everything in sight and not worry about my weight, for a change. I could see the big table spread before  me. I felt like royalty; there were place cards near every dinner plate. I feverishly scanned the table for my name and wonder who would sit next to me at the great banquet.  I silently prayed hoping  Paul or David would sit next to me. I dared not try to sit next to Jesus; so many dressed in white robes will want that spot.  Perhaps John would

God's Timeout!

Even in the mist of your trials, God provides prosperity and peace.  In Jeremiah 29, God told His people that after captivity, after their time-out, He would restore them to Jerusalem.  The people’s response was to simply to listen and obey.  Such a simple task, yet, not easily done. Are you a doer of God’s word? Does others see God in your actions? Do you see yourself, your actions, and your thoughts when you read God’s word?   James talks about looking into God’s mirror and walking away forgetting what you look like (James 1:23-24).  Trials are not for you to point the finger at others or to use as a pawn to make idle promises to do better.    Trials designed to bring you closer to God, to embrace His love, mercy, and grace.  Remember raising your children (if you had any) and after you scold them, they ran to you with tears in their eyes and hug you tightly, a silent plea for forgiveness.  When God cannot get your attention, he puts you in His time-out. No one like

I Didn't See That Coming

Arriving at work, I put my lunch bag in the refrigerator, fired up the computer and  entered my logged on.  The phone rang.  "This is Ms. Swanson," I told the caller.  "Yes, right away."  I hung up the phone, reached for my keys and raced downstairs asking God to provide what I need from the spiritual realm. I wasn’t sure what I would run up against. A policeman was at my car writing a ticket. One of the sergeants’ saw my handicap placard on the seat and called me to come down quickly. While racing to the car, I noticed my IPhone watch on my arm. I wasn't allowed to wear it at work, especially with security violation written all over the action. I forgot to take it off! Supposed someone saw it, I could lose my job. Right at that moment I remembered to get my retainer from my purse when I put it in the truck. It could melt in the heat, costing a replacement cost of $300. All I can say is, "I didn't see that coming!"  Do you know who else

Shout Through The Pain!

You will suffer difficulties from time-to-time. Some of you will receive more trials than others. When the dust of suffering settles, thank God for his mercy and grace. Here's why: (1)  It could have been worse. You could have not had any money to pay your bill or food for your table. (2)   A lesson is learned. You look at your situation through God's lens and learned how not to repeat your mistakes. (3)   You grew closer to God. Next time you hit a bad spot, you will resist trying to figure it out and just go straight to God and give it to Him. Suffering is a part of life according to 2 Timothy 3:12. Just like Timothy, in the Bible, you will see a lot during your lifetime. It’s important to surround yourself with strong godly role models.   The young preacher Timothy had his grandmother Lois, mother Eunice, and Paul helped him grow stronger in his faith by the life they led. Would your faith strengthen if you saw saints break down every time they suffered advers

HOW IMPORTANT IS GOD's WORD TO YOU?

Find time to read God's word each day; it will change your life, your circumstance, your destiny.  Here's a few suggestions to help you read God's word more: Carry a Bible in your brief case, backpack, purse or coat pocket. Read a few minutes before your next class, meeting, or during your coffee break. ·         Put a Bible under your pillow or by your bed. If you can't sleep, turn on the light and read a while. Start in Luke Chapter 10. ·         Carry a Bible along with you to a doctor or dentist's appointment.  Why read what they have to  offer? Bring your own reading material. ·         Never go on a trip without a Bible. Reading is worth more than staring out the window and will save you money on reading materials in the terminals.  Besides, travel tickets cost enough! ·         Keep your Bible in your car. When you are in a traffic jam, or waiting on someone, pull it out and read a scripture. I have tried this and every time I

Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

"For without me ye can -- do nothing." Doctor: "I have good news and bad news." Patient: "What's the good news?" Doctor: "You have 24-hours to live." Patient: "What's the bad news?" Doctor: “I couldn't reach you yesterday."      It's easy to complain about your circumstances. It becomes difficult to preserve a positive outlook on life in a world of unemployment, high crime rates, and rising gas prices.  Just this past week, I struggled with keeping a positive attitude.      Several employees' names went missing from our division's database; meaning, no pay.  Alright I confess! I deleted the names, accidentally of course.  Calls poured in one-by-one; upset over the removal of their names.  To make matters worse, two other records appeared in the place of the recovered files. I tried to explain to my boss how the error occurred, but she was not hearing it. What a catastrophe!       When I thin
SCRAPBOOK MEMORIES Remembering When Abraham said, “Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.”  Luke 16:25           Sitting and chatting with old friends one Saturday, we began the "remember when" game.  The game became uncomfortable when my life was the subject of conversation. Quite naturally before I became a Christian, I indulged in ungodly activities.  Five minutes into the "remember when" storytelling, I stopped them saying, "I may not be where I want to be, but, thank God I'm not what I used to be."  With all eyes centered on me, the conversation slowly shifted from my loose living to wanting to know more about Jesus and understanding forgiveness.  I expounded on the Heavenly Trinity  and  Jesus' death on the cross.  The room was so quiet you could hear a rat walk on cotton.        Take a few moments to look over you
